Doing-it-yourself – June 2006

We are fascinated by people with unconventional CVs and for this event we invited speakers from different professions to talk about going it alone. The event took place in No 1 Perren Street, a new private house remodelled from an early 20th century organ factory, with an exclusive tour of commercials director Nicholas Barker’s first foray into property development. Nicholas and architect Chris Godfrey of Scape Architects spoke about the design of the house as a complex exercise in perspective, proportion and framing to create a series of vignettes, revealing highly bespoke features. Chris and Nicholas were joined by Anton Lukoszevieze, pioneering cellist renowned for his performances of avant-garde, experimental and improvised music. Lukoszevieze also takes photographs and makes films.

At every event at abrahams, we invite an emerging illustrator and photographer to record the event for future publication. On this occasion, in the spirit of the theme, we invited everyone present to take a few pictures using the disposable cameras provided.

Jason Ford was the illustrator for the event.

Slippers were handed out to guests to keep the new wooden floors clean.
